To learn! And eat. And get some fresh air.
We're also moving from Philadelphia to Orlando and decided to take the scenic route.
We learn through experiments, so we structured this trip with as many experiments as possible, hence why we are:
- Mostly visiting places that we've never been
- Connecting with as many people as we can along the way
- Visiting many different places
- Doing the whole trip in an electric vehicle
- Eating everything
- Filming everything
- Learning in public
John is also working for most of the trip so we're taking the slower route and learning to live from the road. It's not the last time we'll do this so we want to learn to do it well.
Some things we've learned thus far:
- The kids love this. They're as curious as the adults.
- Range anxiety in a EV is not as bad as we thought. We've learned to trust the car.
- The U.S. is awesome. It's an obvious point, but we suspect it's still under-appreciated. The depth of experience across the country is immense and immensely engaging.
- "Food deserts" are a real issue. We've been many, many places where it was nearly impossible to eat simple, healthy, unmodified food.
- Switching time between destinations is substantial. John is working from the road so we have limited ourselves to two travel days per week, which we've found sustainable.
- Good mobile phone service and wifi is less ubiquitous than we assumed in more rural parts of our journey. We've managed, but it makes us wonder about growing disadvantages to less-connected communities in an increasingly connected world.
We will continue to update this page as we learn more.
